While the temperature outside is well above normal, the Summerland Arena is preparing for the summer hockey season.
Crews have been installing ice inside the arena and the first of the summer programs will begin on July 5.

Lori Mullin, director of community services for Summerland, said the process of installing the ice takes around two weeks. This includes setting the ice and adding the lines and logos to the surface.
She said there is a strong demand for summer ice this year.
“We’ve got pretty much full bookings through the summer,” she said. Most of the bookings are for hockey camps, but there is also a figure skating camp scheduled.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are additional protocols in place including enhanced cleaning and limits to the number of people in the building.
Following the summer programs, minor hockey and the Summerland Steam Junior B team will take to the ice during the fall and winter months.
