Summerland Ladies Club golfers compete in Dorothy Olive Franklin Memorial Tournament

Event held in honour of golf promoter

Summerland Ladies Club

On Tuesday, June 1, the Summerland Golf and Country Ladies Club competed in the Dorothy Olive Franklin Memorial Tournament.

This provincial tournament was established in honour of Dorothy Franklin who gave a great many years to ladies golf, both at the provincial and national levels. The proceeds are used to help send promising junior girls to out-of-province or international tournaments.

This tournament is held at the club level and is open to any female golfer with an established RCGA handicap factor (maximum 40.4). An award is presented to all of the zone winners. The B.C. office determines the Provincial winner.

Local winners of the low gross/low net game:

First flight: First low gross Helen Pybus, 92; second low gross Carol Mulligan, 92 cb; first low net Vijai Vaagen, 75, second low net Christine Haessig, 77.

Second flight: First low gross Pat Stohl, 107, second low gross Diana Leitch, 111; first low net Betsy McAndrew, 78, second low net Norma Chambers, 78 cb.

Summerland Senior Men’s Club

On June 3, the Summerland Senior Men’s Club had a team format, counting two net scores per hole.

The winning team with 88 points was Dwain Sandrelli, George Carswell, Bob Dickeson and Dennis Foyle. Second place by countback with 87 points was Dave Carleton, Cary Herschmiller, Jeff Clarke and Dave Cain. Third was Michel Perrault, Joe Beggs, Sandy McDowell and Stan Brock. Fourth place with 86 points went to Jim Haddrell, Peter Schnurr, Glen Steinke and Gary Hollingshead.

Six players shared the deuce pot, Stu Macaulay, Barry Wicker, Glen Steinke, Cory Herschmiller, Dave Carleton and Dwain Sandrelli.
