The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club is basking in the glow of a great weekend as its open house attracted a number of new recruits, and the sun was out Sunday for the official opening of the season.
Parksville Mayor Chris Burger and his wife Stephanie “got the new season off to a rousing start by rolling the first bowl. The couple then played a full 12 end game.
According to PLBC’s Carol Bucyk club President, Pat Kelly, was impressed by the mayor’s great stance, line and delivery.
“He’s definitely got game. A natural, that’s for sure,” Kelly commented afterwards.
The club welcomes visitors to come watch the games played on some of the best greens around and with the largest membership north of Victoria.
“It was a beautiful day to be out lawn bowling,” Bucyk said Sunday night, adding she was “thrilled” with the open house. “We probably had between 50-60 people show up for the Open House and we’ve got 33 signed up for lessons which start next week (and) to me, that’s a great number,” she said.
As for opening day play, all the rinks were full “which means we had 64 people playing. We also had some people drop by to watch from the picnic tables and there were also people watching out their windows from Stanford Place.”
GAME ON
The PLBC’s regular season begins 9 a.m., April 27 with the Kick Off Tournament.
