The Okanagan Sun overcame a listless and sloppy start to defeat the hometown Kamloops Broncos 23-8 in B.C. Football Conference action Saturday night at Hillside Stadium.
The Sun trailed 8-2 after a shaky, mistake-filled opening half, before erupting for 21 unanswered points in the second half to record their third win of the 2013 season.
After a pair of singles gave the Sun a 2-0 lead, running back Dillon Fortune fumbled deep in his own territory in the second quarter to set up the Broncos’ lone touchdown of the night.
Kamloops later sacked Sun QB Cam Bedore in the end zone for an 8-2 lead after 30 minutes.
Following a failed on-side kick attempt by Kamloops to open the third quarter, the Sun took over as Theo Deezar connected on a nine-yard TD pass with Deion Bain to give Okanagan the lead for good.
Deezar added touchdown passes of 47 yards to Tommy Howes and 37 yards to Thomas Huber to round out the scoring. Howes finished with nine catches for 123 yards.
On defense, Jack Rush, Robbie Yochim and Brandon Donkers each had an interception.
The Sun committed six turnovers on the night—four on downs and two fumbles.
Okanagan returns to action Saturday night at the Apple Bowl when they host the defending BCFC champion Langley Rams.
