From the opening whistle it was no contest.
The Okanagan Sun had their way with the Westshore Rebels in every facet of the game Saturday at the Apple Bowl, en route to a 78-7 thrashing of their Victoria-based opponents in the BCFC opener for both teams.
Wes Geisler opened the scoring with a three-yard pick six early in the first quarter.
Cam Bedore’s first completion of the season was a 56-yard touchdown bomb to Kyle Kawamoto, then five minutes later Kory Nagata took a pitch from Bedore and ran 20 yards to pay dirt.
Later in the first quarter Brennan Van Nistlerooy blocked a punt, sending it back into the end zone where Raquille Cespedes jumped on it for his first touchdown of the season.
In the third Nagata had the play of the night when he bounced off tacklers on his way to a 54-yard touchdown, his second of the night.
Dillon Fortune, Abdi Nasir-Abdi, Kasey Russell, Marcus Cooper and Shai Ross also scored majors for the Sun who rolled up 573 yards in offence.
Bedore, who started the game, threw a pair of TD passes and threw for 160 yards, while Josiah Joseph was 7-for-7 for 155 yards passing and a touchdown.
The Sun led 50-0 at the half and 78-0 at three quarter time, before the Rebels rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter.
The Sun return to action on Saturday when they visit the Valley Huskers at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack.
On Saturday, the Huskers lost their season opener to the Kamloops Broncos 72-17.
