Sunnydale Men’s Wednesday golf captain Rob Heron and vice-captain Corey Nickerson have taken Wednesday Night Men’s Club by the scruff of neck and given it a good shake.
They have spent the winter wearing out the soles of their shoes securing new sponsors for the 2015 season. The results are breathtaking. Every hole has a prize and some have two. The last two Wednesdays have seen Rob give out 11 prizes as well as the Bar and Pro shop credits. Well over half the field won a prize.
The whole affair is tightly run and tons of fun. The kitchen is offering a reasonable beer and burger for only $10. Don’t forget that you earn Midland’s Tool Cup points as well.
Four events have been added to this year Midland’s Tool cup – two Sundays and two Wednesdays. This is a net event. On Sundays the lowest net in the field earns 2,500 poin – points are then awarded in a descending scale to the rest of the field. On Wednesday points awarded are halved.
As well, some important events will warrant additional points such as the Captain’s Cup, President’s Cup and the Club Championship. Although the personalized bag was not offered as a prize in 2014 the Men’s Club executive decided that this signature event needed some more glamour.
At the end of the season the total points winner will receive the bag while the next 14 players will share in the $500 gift certificates that have been generously awarded by Midland’s Tools. After that the points will be reset and the “Race to Bear Mountain” begins. The prize: two nights deluxe accommodation and four rounds of golf.
Sponsor of the April 22 night was Westview Ford (Corey Nickerson). Low gross was won by Jon Huisman 35 followed by Larry Ferguson 37 and Brian Phelan 38.
Low net winners were Damon Gaudet 34, Dave Pye 35, Doug Rushton 35.
Sunnydale Men’s Golf Club is off to a strong start in 2015. Participation is up substantially over last year. Let’s keep it up! Sunday morning arrive at 8 for an 8:30 shotgun start or better yet arrive at 7:30 for a great breakfast in the clubhouse. Wednesday evening 5:30 p.m. for a 6 start.
