Sun’s Yochim a record setter as Okanagan get set for Sunday tilt

It won't be as easy this weekend for the Sun as they host Langley in first place showdown after one-sided affair last weekend

Okanagan Sun kick returner Robbie Yochim had quite the game last weekend in the Sun’s 92-7 thrashing of the Westshore Rebels

The Sun’s record-setting outburst of 92 points in its win last weekend saw Yochim set a new Canadian Junior Football League record when he returned three punts for touchdowns in the lopsided affair.

Yochim returned three punts for touchdowns, setting a new CJFL record for most punt returns for touchdowns in a single game. In all, Yochim returned seven punts for 248 yards. One of his touchdowns was 87 yards.

The 92 points the Sun scored on Saturday was a team record for points in a game and the fifth most in the CJFL history. In 1969 the Ottawa Sooners recorded a 109-0 shutout on August 10.  The BCFC record is 97 held by the Vancouver Island Raiders in 2007.

This weekend

Sunday afternoon has all the makings of a classic, in a first place showdown as the Sun (7-1) welcome in the Langley Rams (6-2) in Week 10 of the BCFC regular season.

Three weeks ago the Sun beat the Rams 31-10, avenging a 33-20 loss in Langley during Week 2. This Sunday will be the rubber match and the winner will get sole possession of first place and potentially home field advantage throughout the post season.

This game will feature the Sun defense who have allowed the fewest amount of points (100) matching up with the Rams offense who have scored the most points in the Conference (375).

In the first two games the Sun defense hasn’t allowed the Rams to reach 100 yards on the ground.  In Week 2 they gave up 43 yards, then in Week 7 the Rams collected just 80 yards.  As a matter of fact the leading Rams rusher is Jordan Traversy and his 51 yards on 12 carries.  The reigning BCFC Offense Player of the Week, Nathan Lund has 10 carries for 34 against the Sun and didn’t play in Week 7 at the Apple Bowl.

Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
