The 10th Annual Scottie Hyde Memorial Golf Tourney was a great tribute to Scottie’s memory and the generous spirit of the Hyde family.
The combination of wonderful support from local and area businesses, the help of many volunteers and the incredible generosity of the golfers will provide Eagle Valley Community Support Society (EVCSS), recipients of the funds raised at the tourney, with more than $9,000 to support their programs.
The tournament day dawned beautiful and got off to an exciting start with the Great Golf Ball Drop at the Hyde Mountain practice putting green.
Two-hundred and thirdy-five numbered golf balls sold were dropped onto the green and the ball closest to the hole was determined the winner. The winning ball and the $500 cash payout belonged to Gordon Krahn, a former Sicamous resident who purchased his ball ticket while visiting family in the community.
As a youth, Krahn volunteered his time between 2000 and 2004 to oversee the building of the Sicamous Skate Board Park, so maybe this was proof positive that giving travels full circle and does come back!
This year’s tourney attracted 56 golfers, some from as far away as Saskatchewan.
Coming in first place was the team of Rob Bushell, Jeff Mallmes, Jim Fair and Jamie Hopkins. All received a canvas print of a Hyde Mountain green overlooking Mara Lake, their names on the Scottie Hyde trophy, bragging rights and a buy in to next year’s tourney.
The photo for the print was shot by Kim Hyde, and put to canvas by Tia Lemieux.
The houseboat raffle prizes were won by ticket holders Jeff Mallmes and Jon Sergeant.
The raffle was a sell-out thanks to the generosity of the golfers and members of the community. A houseboat vacation package netted $1,000 in the silent auction.
Adding to the fun this year was the Express Spa, which was set up to allow a magnificent view of Mara Lake.
The services were a welcome addition enjoyed by volunteers, golfers and the visiting public.
The staff at Hyde Mountain’s Logger’s Lounge restaurant capped a great day of golf with a delicious meal, and DJ Blair Laurilla provided the background music for the evening.
Fairway game prizes were awarded and every golfer drew for a prize also received a gift of wine in celebration of the 10th Annual Scottie Hyde Memorial Tourney. A fitting end to a wonderful day.
