For the fourth year in a row, Surrey pastor John Burns tested his endurance on the golf course, completing 100 holes in a single day, all in the name of raising money.
Burns, raising money for Mercy Ministries Canada, completed the marathon session at Peace Portal Golf Course Monday, starting at 4:30 a.m. and finishing just under 12 hours later.
“It was grueling – I always forget how tough it is,” he said.
“But then we see how much money we raise, and see the people we help, and that makes it worth it.”
Burns, 59, who completed the feat with friend Jodi Reimer, a golf pro, had aimed to raise $200,000. Final numbers are not yet tallied, but he predicts he exceeded that goal.
Past years have raised between $35,000 and $50,000, and next year – when Burns will be 60 – he said he’d like to shoot for $1-million.
“I’ll be 60 years old, maybe it’ll be my last time, so why not shoot for the moon?”
