Club records and provincial qualifying times were achieved by several members of the Delta Sungod Swim Club while competing June 3-5 at the Kamloops Classics Invitational.
“The results from the weekend were very positive,” said Sungod assistant coach Maxime Marechal-McCoy. “The swimmers showed good improvement since their last meet in May.”
Noah Landry, 16, and Hailey Penner, 13, established new standards for a Sungod swimmer. Landry won a bronze medal while he broke the club record in the 400m individual medley for males 15-and-over, and also achieved a provincial AAA qualifying time in the 200m back stroke, winning another bronze medal. He also qualified for the AA provincials in the 400m freestyle, 50m and 100m back stroke, and 100m butterfly events. He qualified for the final in the 100m back stroke, placing eighth.
Penner broke a 10-year-old Sungod record while winning a silver medal in the long course 200m butterfly in the female 13-14 age group, and set a new standard in the 400m individual medley while achieving her age group national standard. She also reached age group national standards in the 50m and 200m butterfly events, winning a bronze medal in the 50m race. Penner also placed fifth in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley and was seventh in the 200m freestyle.
Claudia Baxter, 15, achieved a B.C. AAA qualifying time in the 100m butterfly band a provincial AA time in the 200m individual medley. She reached one final, placing sixth in the 200m breast stroke.
Harbir Grewal, 12, achieved a qualifying time in the AA category in the 100m breast stroke while placing fifth.
Reece Landry, 14, swam AA qualifying times in the 200m and 400m individual medley, and 50m and 200m breast stroke. He was fourth in the 200m breast stroke, fifth in the 200m freestyle and sixth in the 200m individual medley and the 50m breast stroke.
Elena Penner, 15, achieved her AA time in the 200m back stroke and also placed fifth in the 50m butterfly.
Sarveen Sangha, 13, achieved her AA time in the 200 breaststroke with Cory Bullock, 15, achieving a B.C. AA qualifying times in his 50m butterfly, 200m free and 100m backstroke races.
Victor Lucy, 14, placed sixth in both the 100m breast stroke and 200 butterfly, and seventh in the 100m back stroke and 100m butterfly.
