The Delta Sungod Swim Club had another successful weekend in the pool earlier this month in Richmond.
More than 400 swimmers attended the West Coast Open competing at Watermania, and the Sungod club had one swimmers qualify for the BC AAA Championships and nine achieve personal-best times.
“We have been focused on our longer events this weekend and the kids were much more consistent with their effort over the long races,” said Julian Getzov, an assistant head coach with the Sungod Club.
Noah Landry, 13, met the provincial standard while placing fifth in his 200m butterfly race, and will compete in that event at the BC AAA Championships at UBC Aquatic Centre the second weekend in July.
Sungod swimmers in the finals at the West Coast Open were:
Michael Milic, 14 – gold 50m back stroke; bronze 100m back stroke, 200m breast stroke, 200m back stroke and 100m breast stroke.
Hailey Penner, 10 – gold 200m butterfly; 4th 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly; 5th 200 individual medley; 7th 50m back stroke.
Connor Warkentin, 17 – silver 200m breast stroke, 5th 200m individual medley; 6th 50m and 100m breast stroke.
Nicholas Kidd, 15 – silver 100m back stroke; 5th 200m back stroke.
Claudia Baxter, 12 – bronze 200m individual medley; 4th 200m back stroke; 8th 100m and 200m breast stroke, 100m butterfly.
Elena Penner, 13 – bronze 100m butterfly; 5th 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle; 6th 100m freestyle.
Logan Warkentin, 13 – 4th 100m free style, 200m back stroke; 5th 100m back stroke; 6th 400m freestyle, 50m back stroke.
Rosanna Chung, 16 – 7th 50 breast stroke.
Albert Yu, 12 – 8th 200m breast stroke.
Caralyn Vossen, 15 – 8th 50 breaststroke.
The Sungod club will have Early Registration Nights June 4-5 (Tuesday/Wednesday) for the 2013-14 season from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sungod Recreation Centre.
