The Cowichan Secondary Thunderbirds beat Georges P. Vanier in a pair of boys rugby matches last Thursday, then defeated a visiting team from Ontario on Friday.
On Thursday, Cowichan’s First XV beat the Vanier Towhees 10-0 on tries by John-Henry Morten and Haele Ferguson in a physical battle on a muddy pitch.
“Cowichan proved to be slightly more organized on defence,” T-Birds coach Ron Glass said.
Following that, the Cowichan development team got by their Vanier rivals 7-0 thanks to a try by Tanner Cardinal that Liam Jones converted.
“An excellent development opportunity for the less experienced Cowichan players,” Glass said.
On Good Friday, the First XV dealt visiting Erin High from Ontario a 22-17 defeat. Morten led the way with two tries, Jon McFawn and Reilly Zarate scored one apiece, and Logan Kits kicked a conversion.
“We were very well organized, but were unable to convert on numerous opportunities due to basic handling errors,” Glass said. “A terrific experience to play another school from out of province.”
The T-Birds visited Frances Kelsey Secondary on Thursday afternoon.
