The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds’ winning streak now sits at four games after a pair of wins on home ice in Abbotsford.
The major midget hockey team hosted the Thompson Blazers for a pair of games at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre on Saturday and Sunday, and took care of business.
The Thunderbirds exploded for the biggest offensive output of the season on Saturday, beating the Blazers 9-3. Baxter Anderson (two), Jamie Housch (two), Mackenzie Wight, Jonathan Rees, Kaelen Anderson, Nowel Maarhuis and Abbotsford’s Jake Mulder scored for Fraser Valley. Abbotsford’s Zac McKee drew three assists, while local products Ryan Crosby-Jones and Kyle Davis both recorded one helper.
Goals were much harder to come by on Sunday, as the Thunderbirds edged the Blazers 2-1.
All of the scoring occurred in the third period, with Fraser Valley opening, Thompson tying it up, and the Thunderbirds’ Logan Hunter shooting the winner with 7:37 left in the game. Matthew Dyck scored the Thunderbirds‘ first goal, and Davis picked up an assist on the game-winner.
Fraser Valley is now in fifth place in the British Columbia Major Midget League, with a record of 10 wins, six losses, and four ties.
The Thunderbirds return to home ice at the ARC on Saturday and Sunday for games against the Greater Vancouver Canadians. Saturday’s game kicks off at 4 p.m., while Sunday is scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
