The Williams Lake Midget Female Timberwolves had four wins and one loss to win the championship during the weekend at a rep tournament in Kamloops.
The T-wolves lost their first game 1-0 to Abbotsford, but bounced back with good wins Saturday over Penticton and Lloydminster Alberta to win the round robin portion of the tournament, head coach Roy Call said.
A rematch with Abbotsford in the semifinal had Williams Lake coming out with a 4-1 victory.
“In the finals against the host Kamloops team the girls fended off a determined team for the first 10 minutes,” Call said.
A power play goal for Williams Lake after that got the momentum shifting in the T-wolves’ direction and, from there, the team took over and played great hockey for 60 minutes in the 4-0 final, Call said.
“Rachel Cross and Tamara William split time in goal,” he said. “And great performances from all three Outhouse sisters [Paige, Faith and Grace] resulted in three goals in the final — one for each.”
He added Brooke Call had a good game, as well, with a goal and two assists.
Next up for the Timberwolves is a tournament this weekend in Penticton, followed by another in Salmon Arm the following week.
