Tai Chi movements demonstrated

Nancy’s Ninjas Tai Chi Group, who practice at the Summerland Drop-in Centre, are organizing and taking part in World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

Have you ever wondered what Tai Chi or Qigong was, or if you’ve seen either of them done, have you wanted to try it, but never got around to it?

Nancy’s Ninjas Tai Chi Group, who practice at the Summerland Drop-in Centre, are organizing and taking part in World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on the weekend.

The event will take place at Memorial Park in Summerland, in Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m.

This is a free event to which the public in all age groups is invited. Come and see this event- or better still, join in and give it a try.

For those who aren’t sure of what either Tai Chi or Qigong are, they both are gentle forms of exercise originating from China.

The two disciplines are allied. They focus on improved body alignment, balance, and body energy, through breathing and gentle dance-like movement and postures.

Both Tai Chi and Qigong are activities physicians may suggest or prescribe to their patients in order to improve their health.

There will be opportunities for attendees to take part in different aspects of the discipline. Qigong is generally more free-form and takes less space to perform. Tai Chi form  is a specific series of movements, like a dance.

There will also be an opportunity to watch a demo of a different style.

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day takes place annually on the last Saturday in April at 10 a.m. across the globe, in all time zones.

When one time zone ends its hour long session, the next time zone then begins.

The idea is to have 24 hours of worldwide, peaceful, healthful, and cooperative activity.
