Vancouver Island Biathlon Club is offering biathlon programs for young and old alike

For the 2012/13 season, the Vancouver Island Biathlon Club (VIBC) is offering biathlon programs for young and old alike at their Mt Washington facilities.

VIBC operates one of the best, fully automated ranges in British Columbia.

Their experienced, passionate coaches will guide you through a progressive program to ensure that you get the most out of your introduction to this exhilarating Olympic sport.

The focus will be on safety and fun, but will also prepare those who are interested to participate in BC Cup Races.

  • n Biathlon Bears Program.

Ages:  10-14 yrs

Cost:  $150

The program follows Biathlon Canada’s Biathlon Bears structure and introduces youth to the rewarding sport of biathlon.  Through eight sessions we help our athletes to develop concentration through marksmanship and fitness through skiing. Youth move through three levels (Black Bear, Grizzly Bear and Polar Bear), gaining new skills in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. Bears do not need to have any prior skiing or shooting experience, so feel free to give this unique sport a try!

Saturdays:  12:30 – 2 p.m.

Jan. 12 – March 9 (no session Feb. 2).

  • n Biathlon Youth/Adults/Masters Program.

Ages:    15yrs+

Costs:  $200

Participants do not need to be experienced skiers. However, they can make this program as competitive as you like – just let them know what your goals are.

You will be taught proper biathlon-specific shooting skills from the ground up by Biathlon Canada certified coaches.

  • n Starting Jan. 12, will be an entry level officials course.

Learn how to be an official at a biathlon race.

Who knows where it may lead you? Regional race, BC Cup, World Cup, Olympics.

Dec 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Join them after the course for refreshments and their AGM at 4 p.m. at the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre
