Each year International Pairs Canada invites Canadian golf clubs to host qualifier tournaments for a chance to win a trip to Scotland. Eastern winners will travel to Pipers Heath Golf Club in Milton, Ont. on Sept. 19 and the western winners from Manitoba west will come to Crown Isle in Courtenay on Oct. 3.

Seventy-two teams will compete at each location.  The western Canada finals winners will then join the eastern winners and represent Canada in 2012 at the world championship at St. Andrews in Scotland.

On Sunday, June 12 Glacier Greens Golf Club hosted an International Pairs qualifier. Thirty-one two-person teams teed it up and played a full 18 holes. The Stableford scoring system was utilized and after the last putt had dropped and the scores tallied the team of Dave Sheppard and Wayne Wood (after a count back) was declared the winner with a score of 48.

Also at 48 and in second place were Jim Larocque and Stan Mills. Third place with 47 was shared by Dave Brooker and Gary MacGregor and the team of Bruce Coulter and Bud Bryan. Next at 46 were Joe Dunham and Adrian Haut and the team of Nick Mykitiuk and Rudge Wilson. Six teams were tied at 45.

“Good luck at Crown Isle lads. The Glacier Greens members will be cheering for you,” said Len Doyle.
