Local runners collect hardware in Vancouver Island race series

The Oceanside Running Club (Team ORCA) continues its successful start to the Vancouver Island Runners’ Association Winter Series.

After gaining winning times and personal bests at the Cobble Hill 10K, more medals were brought home to Oceanside at the recent Bazan Bay 5K in Sidney.

Melissa Ross was the sixth overall woman finisher and first in her age division (women 30-34), with a fast time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds in the March 5 race.

Faye Amos set a new age-group course record, finishing first in the women’s 65-69 division in 23.47.

Jill Davies (women 70-74) and Jim McLean (men 85-89) both took silver in their respective age divisions, and Goldie Lindenbach was on the podium in sixth place in women 65-69.

The Oceanside Running Club will host its annual Mothers’ Day 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 14.
