Telus buys local company, Mascon

Both Salmon Arm-based Mascon and Telus representatives say purchase will not change service or staffing levels.

A local company has sold to a giant, but officials of both organizations say there will be no job loss and the purchase will benefit clients.

Delivering communication services since 1983, locally owned and operated, Mascon Cable has been purchased by Telus.

“We are grateful to have worked with and gotten to know the residents and businesses of the Shuswap area over the years,” says Mascon manager Darren Muloin, noting the company’s acquisition by Telus will ensure customers benefit from new Internet and TV technologies. “We will maintain our local presence in the communities we serve and are pleased to say that all Mascon team members, including me and my business partner, have accepted full-time positions with Telus.”

Muloin assures there are no plans to change staffing levels.

“It’ll be business as usual in terms of operations for the foreseeable future, and in the coming months we will develop a plan to combine our capabilities and integrate our teams,” he says.

Earlier this year, Telus announced a $4.5 billion commitment to extend new communications infrastructure across B.C through 2019.

“The acquisition of Mascon will enable Telus to enhance reliability and provide exceptional network capacity for local residents and businesses for generations to come. We feel the time is right to transition our business for the benefit of our valued customers.

Telus officials are equally adamant that the purchase of Mascon will not affect local employees.

“We have always respected the service Mascon has provided to residents and businesses of the Shuswap area, and we look forward to continuing that legacy while investing in the area in order to offer new and enhanced communications and entertainment services,” reads a Jan. 10  email. ” We will be bringing all local Mascon team members on board as TELUS employees, allowing us to draw on the combined strengths of our teams in order to deliver a great experience for all our customers in the area.”
