BC Summer Games’ alumnus and Olympian Jason Haldane got his first taste of Olympic-mania last Thursday, after a whirlwind meeting with the British Prime Minister that landed him on the front page of one of Britain’s top daily newspapers.

Haldane, who is from Terrace but holds a British passport, is competing in the 2012 Olympic Summer Games as a member of Great Britain’s men’s volleyball team.

He and his teammates met Prime Minister David Cameron at the Team Great Britain preparation camp while they were receiving their team clothing and attending pre-Olympic seminars.

The Prime Minister was on a tour of the camp.

“I was actually about to talk him into getting some photos with me and the guys,” said Haldane. “He was a good sport about it.”

Haldane and his teammates are currently in Sheffield finishing up training for the games. They move into the Olympic Village on July 23 – the same day as Haldane’s 41st birthday.

This is the first year Great Britain has entered a men’s volleyball team in the games. Haldane made the team, in part, because of his years of experience playing all over the world. Experience that started right here in northwest B.C.
