More than pickleball players from Terrace and Kitimat converged in Thornhill for the first-ever pickleball tournament here.
“It was a huge success,” said organizer Karen Resch, adding that it was a competitive event with prizes for winners.
“It was a great way for players to test their skills. We had a lot of games to play in eight hours but managed to pull it off.”
The Oct. 29 tournament engaged six women’s and eight men’s teams as well as 13 mixed teams in tight doubles matches at the gym of the old Thornhill Junior school (now Northwest Trades Centre).
Local people play pickleball in Thornhill every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday nights at 8:15 p.m.
The winners from the recent tournament are as follows:
In women’s doubles, first place went to Jaime Wiebe and Karen Resch from Terrace, and second went to Jennifer Hidber and Jeany de Wit, also from Terrace.

In the B pool, Pat Mildy and Ken Hauki from Kitimat took first, and Dennis Ward and Byron Guenter from Terrace earned second.
