Terrace sent 45 athletes to compete in the 2018 BC Summer Games in Cowichan from July 20-22 with multiple Terricites bringing home medals from several events.
Eleven softball players from Terrace were members of the Zone 7 U16 softball team that won gold, going 5-0 over the weekend. The North West came back to win their semi-final game against Cariboo North East and the tournament finals against Thompson-Okanagan.
“The momentum we had going into the final after the crazy semi-final win, I think every kid believed we could do it,” said team coach Ryan Praticante.
Terrace’s Emma Buhr brought back home two gold medals and a silver in Equestrian, finishing in first place back-to-back before coming in second on the third day.
The North West Girls Softball team, comprised of five Terrace athletes, came in eighth place this year. This is the first time in eight years that the North West has had a girl’s softball team go to the BC Summer Games.

Fourteen athletes from Terrace made up most of the North West Boys Soccer team, who came in seventh place this year.
The Northwest Girls Basketball five-on-five team, comprised of five Terrace players, finished in sixth place at the Games.
In swimming, Nolan Knox picked up a seventh-place finish on the 100-metre butterfly, coming in with a time of 1:06:70. He also placed 14th in the 400-metre freestyle with a time of 4:48:51, and came in 29th place with a 1:03:68 timed finish in the 100-metre freestyle. Juliet Lukasser placed 48th in the 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke, timed at 1:32:48 and 3:07:75.
In athletics, Katelyn Andrews finished 18th in the 1200-metre race with a time of 5:34:30. Joel Brown came in 16th in long-jump, clearing 4.41 metres. Kyran Evans threw a whopping 8.75 metres in shot-put, placing 16th overall. In the 100-metre and 200-metre race, Kai Cagna-Orr came in 27th place.
In total, the North West teams brought home 13 medals, seven of them gold, from the BC Summer Games this year.
