The 36th annual Terry Fox Run is taking place this weekend and Clearwater organizer Mark Taylor is hoping to rally a better turnout than previous years.
He said the average amount of particpants in Clearwater has traditionally hovered at about 50 people and a town with a population of more than 2,000 can do better.
“For having 50 people in a town this size to come out and run, that’s kind of embarrassing—we need to get more people involved,” he said.
“I’d like to double that and see 100 people out this year; that might be a little bit hard, but I’d like to see more than 40 or 50 people for sure.”
The event allows participants to run, walk, bike or anything else that makes one mobile along a choice of routes that range from two, five and 10kms as well as raising money through pledges for donation to cancer research.
Last year the Clearwater event raised roughly $4,000 for the cause.
Registration takes place at 10:30 a.m. at the North Thompson Sports Complex, free of charge, and route maps can be picked up onsite.
The run is on Sept. 16 with registration taking place at 10:30 a.m. and the event kicking off at 11 .a.m.
Water, juice boxes and snacks will be provided.
“I just hope we can get a big crowd out this year and make a lot of money for the Terry Fox Run,” Taylor said.
