Shuswap Swimming Team’s first meet at home proved victorious for the locals who competed against swimmers from both Vernon and Kamloops.

Shuswap Swimming Team’s first meet at home proved victorious for the locals who competed against swimmers from both Vernon and Kamloops, earning 10 first-place finishes Sunday.

Geared towards athletes new to the competitive scene, the Fall Jamboree Swim Meet was held at the SASCU Recreation Centre and 50 swimmers participated.

•Eight-and-under girls – Lauren Gridley-Haack took first place in three races: 50-metre freestyle, 50-m breaststroke and 50-m backstroke races.

•Nine to 19-year-old girls – Molly Fogarty picked up two first- place finishes: 100-m individual medley and broke the team record in the 50-m butterfly. Jenna Tiedeman had another first, winning the 50-m breaststroke, breaking the team record at her first meet. Sandra Hall placed second in two races: 50-m backstroke and 100-m individual medley. And Miya Coutlee finished sixth in the 50-m backstroke.

•Thirteen-and-older girls – Kailey Konotopski received two firsts at her first meet: 50-m freestyle and 50-m backstroke.

•In the 10 and under girl’s 4 x 50-m freestyle relay, Fogarty, Hall, Tiedeman and Gridley-Haack claimed a second place finish.

•Nine to 10-year-old boys – Jacob Rambo picked up three, second-place finishes: 50-m freestyle, 50-m butterfly and 100-m individual medley. Ethan Fleming placed second in the 50-m backstroke race, Ethan Pyle took third in the 50-m breaststroke at his first meet and Garret Wasylenki placed fourth in the 100-m individual medley.

•Eleven to 12-year-old boys – Jacob Bojey won first place in the 50-m freestyle, and by less than four seconds, just missed out in qualifying for the invitational level competitions in the 200-m individual medley.

•In the 10 and under boy’s 4 x 50-m freestyle relay, Flemming, Pyle, Wasylenki and Rambo sped past their opponents, winning first place.
