The annual Father’s Day Walk/Run For Prostate Cancer moves to Saanich for Sunday (June 21). Part of a B.C.-wide run held in many cities, the run aims to raise money for a cure, research and to create awareness of the disease. There are four different categories to enter, including a 5-kilometre walk or run, and a timed 10km run.
The run starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Vancouver Island Technology Park.

The Great Island Run debuts at Beaver Lake tomorrow (June 20) with a 5km run/walk, an athletic 10km race, and a free little hero kids 1km run. Opening ceremonies are 9:30 a.m. followed by the 10km run at 10 a.m.
This is a new run, organized by Royal Roads University students.
Proceeds from the run will benefit therapy programs at the Mount St. Mary Hospital residential care home in Victoria.
The Saanich-based Victoria Horseshoe Club is hosting an open house on June 26 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come see what the sport is all about and try your hand at the game of horseshoes. Games will be on hand for many different age groups. Every Wednesday, the club hosts a senior men’s drop-in starting at 10 a.m. Men’s league runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and ladies league is Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The junior league is Mondays at 7 p.m.
The Victoria and District Cricket League hosts two local games this weekend, starting with Oak Bay hosting the University team at Windsor Park at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, the Incogs take on Metchosin at St. Michaels University School, also at 12:30 p.m.
The Premier Baseball League Victoria Mariners host a double-header Sunday against a strong Langley Blaze team. Games begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Henderson Park.
The Mariners face local rivals the Victoria Eagles on Tuesday, June 23, at Lambrick Park, 6 p.m. start. The Eagles are on the Mainland this weekend.
The Victoria Mariners junior premier team is hosting a bottle drive from 10 a.m. to until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20. Anyone is welcome to drop off bottles to help support the long Junior Premier season. For more information about the bottle drive, visit online at victoriamariners.com.
On Sunday, the junior squad hits the road to Whalley for a double-header against Surrey.
The Victoria Eagles midget AAA boys host Kamloops on Saturday, and Tri-City on Sunday. First pitch is 11 a.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday at Lambrick.
In midget AA baseball action, first-place Gordon Head 1 takes on fourth-place Carnarvon in semifinal action this Saturday at 12 p.m. As a playoff game, play will happen in Sidney at Rotary field.
The Eagles’ two bantam AAA teams will also be in action this weekend, facing each other on Saturday at Carnarvon before the Black Eagles travel over to Surrey the next day for two games.
