Thompson Okanagan Football Club teams will be on their home pitches this weekend, as the boys play in Kamloops and the girls are at the Rutland sports fields in Kelowna for B.C. Soccer Premier League action.
On Saturday, the TOFC boys will take on Coastal FC in U13, U14, U15 and U17/18 age divisions. Action at McArthur Island Park begins at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, the TOFC girls will meet Coastal U13, U14 and U16 action starting at 1 p.m. in Rutland.
In action from last weekend:
• U16 girls—The TOFC side won its home opener in Rutland defeating Coquitlam Metro Ford 2-1.
TOFC made a positive start to the game and carved out an early lead from an opportunist strike from Moraya Harrison (Kamloops) who capitalized on some hesitant defending by CMF to steal the ball and slip a first time strike past the out coming CMF goalkeeper from the top of the box.
Then late in the half, Erin Graham (Kelowna) scored an important second goal when she lofted the ball past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
TOFC buoyed after what was an excellent first half performance began the second half well and in the opening stages looked the more dangerous of the two teams. However at 54 minutes TOFC conceded an unfortunate goal which gave the visiting CMF team a lift and they began pressing hard for a portion of the second half.
Despite increased pressure and activity in and around the TOFC area in the second half, a well marshalled defence and the team overall were determined not to give up an equalizing goal.
• U17-18 boys—The TOFC boys dropped a pair of weekend games to Coquitlam Metro Ford in Rutland.
Coquitlam MF 95s, with an 8-0 record, posted a 4-2 win Saturday. Thompson-Okanagan scored an early goal at the four-minute mark when centre-back Chris Pires (Kelowna) played a through-ball to winger Nathan Persoon (Kelowna) After Persoon played the ball into the box Ayo Fashanu (Kelowna) scored off a scramble.
Coquitlam responded with two goals before the of the half, then added two more at 60 and 62 minutes for a 4-1 lead.
With10 minutes left in the game, TOFC forced three corner kicks, scoring on the third. Kelowna’s Ben McDonald headed the ball into the net to make the final 4-2.
On Sunday, TOFC was kept off the scoresheet in a 2-0 loss to CMF 96s.
Coquitlam scored the first goal at the 23rd minute mark, then added another that went off the post and in at the 62nd minute.
TOFC did push back a few minutes later creating scoring chances, the best when Matt Fielding hit the post after a terrific build-up.
