Three-way tie atop Haney Masters’ league

Three rinks are locked together in first place, five games into the Haney Masters’ Curling League at Golden Ears Winter Club.

The rinks of Lorne Fletcher, Wayne Chin, and Jack Stadel are deadlocked at four wins and only one loss as they jumped into the early lead in the round robin competition consisting of 13 teams.

Supported by third Eric Holler, second Terry Lajeunesse, and Hugh McIntyre at lead, the Fletcher foursome came up with a last rock victory Wednesday to stay tied for top spot.

Playing Peter Koehler’s rink, Fletcher executed a brilliant take out on his last rock to grab an 8-6 victory.

Koehler, along with George Lagerstrom (third), Barry Elson (second) and Bob Asher (lead) had roared back from a huge deficit to almost pull off a come-from-behind victory. However, with Koehler lying two, Fletcher took both rocks out on his final stone to preserve the win.

With an increased number of members, 13 teams are vying for top spot in the round robin competition with draws every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m.

More curlers or those interested in sparing are invited to join the league which consists of men over 55. Emphasis on enjoyment, exercise and competition in a friendly environment are the aims of the league.
