Three Williams Lake riders medalled to the podium after competing in the third round of the BC Enduro Series held in the lakecity May 21 and 22. Sunday saw 185 racers tackle the Fox Mountain trail network in Williams Lake, with cooler temperatures but no rain making the conditions optimum. In the Pro Men’s category, Williams Lake’s Paul Rohner came second with a time of 19 minutes and 10 seconds. Cory Brunelle, also of Williams Lake, placed third for his time of 19 minutes 12 seconds.They were narrowly beat out by the Stu Dickson from Revelstoke who won with his time of 19 minutes and 6 seconds. It was Dickson’s first time riding in Williams Lake and after the awards were presented at the Laughing Loon Restaurant he told the Tribune the riding was “awesome.”“I have a couple of friends living here and I’d always heard how great the riding is,” he said. “I thought what a better way to check it out than competing in the Enduro.” Dickson competed in the Enduro World Series in South America and Europe last year. Rohner who also placed first in Saturday’s Elite Enduro race on Desous Mountain and was smiling as the final results of Sunday’s race were displayed across a TV screen at the Laughing Loon.“I am happy with my results,” Rohner said. Brunelle described Sunday’s race as clean, with no mechanical problems or crashes.“Some of us rode as a group and cheered each other on, it was great,” he said. In the Over-40 Men’s category, Bryon Black of Williams Lake came in first with a time of 20 minutes and 31 seconds. Rich Marshal garnered second with his time of 21 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by Andy Moore with a time of 21 minutes and 39 seconds.Black, who was thanked by many locals for his efforts in helping put on the event, said he was just happy everyone had fun.“We’ve done these types of races locally but this is the first time we have done a big time Enduro,” Black said. “We had riders of all levels, from the pros to the newcomers.” Kamloops is the next stop on the BC Enduro Series taking place Saturday, June 5.
