On the weekend, the Creston peewee house Bruins played in the Kimberley peewee Nitros tournament.

The tournament started for the Bruins with a Friday evening game against Cranbrook Western Roofing, which Creston won 7-1. Creston started the game with a goal from Justice Samuels Mund, receiving the puck from Kenton Blackmore. Western Roofing finished off the period with their lone goal of the game.

Scoring in the second period for Creston were Alex Blackmore and Samuels Mund. Creston scored four more goals in the third period. Those scoring were Levi Palmer, Vinson Blackmore (two) and Alex, assisted by Kenton, Samuels Mund, Christopher Bohn, Denek Blackmore and Vinson.

Saturday morning brought a re-match of the final two teams in the Creston home tournament, with Creston defeating Cranbrook Dodge 4-3. Both teams played equally hard, with Creston goalie Cole Bright making awesome saves to keep the first period scoreless. Creston started the scoring in the second period when Samuels Mund and Jordon Gigliotti sent the puck to Alex. Cranbrook Dodge then answered with a goal of their own, but Caytlyn Luke snuck in a goal with only one second left in the second period.

The third period saw a heated battle between the two teams, with Dodge being the first to score to tie the game. Creston came back to score two goals by Samuels Mund and Vinson to give a two-goal lead. With only one minute left in the game, Denek was called for interference, which resulted in a penalty shot by Dodge. Try as he might, Bright did his best to block the shot but it snuck by him for their final goal of the game.

On Saturday afternoon, Creston played the host team, the Kimberley peewee Nitros, losing 6-3. Kimberley was the first to score in the first period. Creston, playing their hardest, only scored one goal in the second period, with a puck sent to Tyson Steed by Kenton. The third period Creston played hard and tough but could not catch up to the Nitros. Scoring for the Bruins in the third period were Serge Chatwin and Alex.

Late Sunday morning, the Bruins faced the Kimberley team again, in the tournament final, which resulted in a 5-4 win for Creston. Kimberley started the scoring in the first period. Creston’s Shayne Walker started the second period with a powerful shot from the blue line, which landed in the Kimberley goal.

With much back and forth action, some great plays and passing, Kimberley was the first the score in the last period, but answering their goal was Denek to tie the game 2-2. Palmer then scored to give Creston a one-point lead. With less than two minutes left in the game, Kimberley scored to end the regulation time with a 3-3 tie. The two teams played a scoreless four-on-four in a sudden death five-minute period. It came down to a shootout, and Palmer finished the game with the winning goal.

The team must have been hungry on the weekend, too. At the end of each game, the teams played 5 puck, with the prize being Timbits, and the Creston team won all four games! That is a lot of Timbits. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend in Kimberley for the Bruins. The team played well, and came home with gold medals and bellies full of Timbits.
