Drag racers from near and far are converging on Port Alberni this weekend (Aug. 11-12) for the 12th annual Thunder in the Valley.

It is a great mix of drivers and specially prepared racing machines competing at the Alberni Valley Regional Airport.

The racing program has six race classes (Street, Modified, Pro, Super Pro, Bikes, Door Slammers) in addition to feature cars such as the Damn Yankee that easily tops 200 mph.

Qualifying runs Saturday and eliminations go Sunday. Among the many Vancouver Island drivers expected to compete is Bill Leong of the Comox Valley in his 1991 Camaro.
