Thunder win 13U peewee Interior championship to advance to provincials

The Penticton Thunder are off to provincials after winning the Interior Region

The Penticton Thunder 13U peewee AA baseball team are Interior Region champs.

The Thunder clinched the championship with a 3-1 record when they defeated West Kelowna 22-16 in Penticton. Thunder coach Jamie Raymond said the team faced strong competition from Kelowna, Kamloops and West Kelowna with the two finalists (Penticton and West Kelowna) slugging it out for a combined 30 hits in the final. In their other games, the Thunder defeated COMBA (Kelowna) 7-4 and edged Kamloops 8-7. They lost game three 15-12 to West Kelowna.

The Thunder are in Campbell River this week for the B.C. Baseball championship which goes until July 30. The top 10 teams will square off in round robin, with the final four moving onto the semifinal round.

The Thunder, guided by Raymond, who is making his third trip to provincials, have a record of 33-12-1.
