Thunder win rec lacrosse league title

Pete Vanden Dungen scored five times to lead the Thunder to an 11-7 win over the Cowboys in the Cowichan Rec Lacrosse League championship game in mid July.

Ben Vanden Dungen added three goals, while Luke Van Huizen, Dallas Johnson and Ryan King each scored once for the Thunder.

Replying for the Cowboys were Jinder Dhami with three goals, Nick Prangley with two, and Willy Toews and Chris Punnett with singles.

Mark Fisherman got the win in goal, while Chris Alphonse was saddled with the loss.

The Thunder beat the Warriors 9-6 in the semifinal behind two goals from Van Huizen.

Bruce Klaassen of the Cowboys took home the Blair Pigeon Award as league MVP, while the Thunder’s Alec Delcourt was picked as rookie of the year, and Dan Cvitanovich of the Warriors received the top defensive player honour.
