TICKET GIVEAWAY: Langley teams head to field in Canadian Open

Canadian’s new-found appreciation and support for women’s sports was definitely bolstered by FIFA and the soccer championships wrapping up this weekend in Vancouver.

But the talent does end there.

Also in the global arena of women’s sports – starting this weekend – some of this world’s best softball players are converging on nearby Cloverdale, and among the teams competing are Langley’s own Rebels and Langley Xtremes.

These women are cleaning off their cleats and gearing up for the 2015 Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship running July 3 to 13 at Softball City and the Cloverdale Athletic Park.

Teams will be welcome from around the world, including Team Japan, Team Cuba, Team Puerto Rico, Team Dominican Republic, and Team Mexico.

The tournament will host participating teams spanning five divisions: women’s, futures (U19) gold and select, and showcase (16U) gold and select.

The atheletes in the tournament will be playing more than 300 ball games during the course of 11 days at two nearby Surrey-based venues.

The schedule for each division is as follows:

Women’s: July 4 to 13

Futures Gold: July 6 to 12

Showcase Gold: July 6 to 12

Futures Select: July 3 to 6

Showcase Select: July 3 to 6
