Ryan Landels supplied seven goals and five assists as the Vernon Re/Max Tigers toppled the Kamloops Venom 16-13 in Game 1 of the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League best-of-five final series Sunday night at Memorial Arena.
Nolan Frame added four goals for the Tigers, who finished second in the regular season at 8-6-2. The Venom won the league title at 14-1-1, their only coming loss against Vernon.
Kamloops used a four-goal, third-period flurry, including a goal by Quinn Smith on a penalty shot with no time remaining, to force a 10-minute overtime. Vernon scored the only three goals of the OT.
The penalty shot was given when a referee ruled Vernon goalie Tyler Landry had moved his net.
Game 2 in the series goes Wednesday night (7:30) at the Wesbild Centre. The third game is scheduled for Monday night in Kamloops.
