Tim Hortons will honour the North North Okanagan Athlete and Team of the Year Wednesday night at the VantageOne Soccer Centre

The awards selection, which also now includes a leadership/service trophy, was started by the Funtastic Sports Society in 1993-94.

NHLer Brent Gilchrist took the honour that first year. Past winners include swimmer Savannah King, basketball star Diane Schuetze and Viper captain David Robinson.

“There were many great outstanding applications received and considered,” said committee chairman Ken Richardson.

Nominated for Team of the Year are hockey’s Watkin Motors Pee Wee Tier 2 Mustangs and North Okanagan Bantam Tier 4 Knights, Jim Cotter’s curling foursome, the Fulton Maroons (senior boys volleyball) and the VSS Panthers (football).

Athletes nominated include snowboarder Kevin Hill, nordic skier Hannah Mehain and swimmer Meredith Levorson.

Directors include retiree John Topping, Dan Currie and Taylor MacInnis of Tim Hortons, Betty Selin of SUN-FM, Pete McIntyre of KISS-FM, retired councillor Jack Gilroy,  Kate Bouey of Castanet and Kevin Mitchell of The Morning Star.
