The 100 Mile House Ainsworth Timber Chix earned a silver medal at the Surrey Female Hockey Association Superheart Tournament in Surrey on Feb. 3-5.
The team opened the Peewee Tier 2 division competition with a 2-0 win over a Surrey team from Surrey.
Their first goal came early in the opening period and the second was an empty-netter in the final moments of the game.
Goalie Rachel Cross remained calm and confident in net, allowing her team to step up and play to their full potential, says trainer/manager Shelly Morton.
The Chix added another victory by next downing Langley 8-2, but met their match in the following game with Tri City who shut them out 5-0.
Game 4 saw the Chix back on top with a 3-1 victory over Ridge Meadow, which put them into the gold medal final with the same Tri City team that had beat them earlier.
Once again the game ended in a 5-0 loss for the 100 Mile House team, but it was good enough for second place and the silver medal.
Morton says her team earned their place in the final.
“They played tough against players that towered over most of our players in size. It was a lot of fun to watch them excel.”
