Timber crew ambushes AF Blazers

North Enderby Timber Celtics ice AF Blazers 3-1 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday at Marshall Field.

The North Enderby Timber Celtics spotted the stubborn AF Blazers the lead before rallying for a 3-1 victory in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #2.

Shantell Hayhurst converted a cross from Hailey Woon for the Blazers’ goal. Five minutes later, Woon was taken down in the 18-yard area, but the Blazers failed on the penalty shot.

The Celtics recorded a quick turn-around goal from veteran Jenn Siegmueller. Newbie Maddy Demers delivered a cross which bounced to Siegmueller, who slammed it home from close range.

The Celtics’ second goal came shortly after on a terrific set piece. Jen Russell sent a through the ball into flick master Carly Smith, who nodded it on to Shannon Nolting, who went far post to find Tori Reid, who volleyed it into the back of net.

Heidi Holtmann showed composure with five minutes left, flicking a bouncing ball over a defender and volleying a left-footer over the keeper from 20 yards.

Celtic coach Graham Ross praised Shannon Noltings for “leadership showed as she covered every inch of the field, displaying tireless work effort.”

The Blazers had stellar defensive showings from Amanda Swales and Amber Maltman and offensive outings from Jen Hatten and Shelby Price.

The Celtics, who have given up just one goal, share the league lead at 3-0 with the Little Tex Outlaws.

Outlaws wrangle up Wrap Zone

Brianna Ostafie and Fahn Hastie each scored twice as the Outlaws lassoed Wrap Zone 7-2 at Marshall #1.

Lisa Stewart, Christine Fraser and Sarah Strobika rounded out the Little Tex offence. Hailey Noakes had both Wrap Zone goals, converting a penalty shot and burying a breakaway chance.

Sisters Bryanna and Janelle Cole showed creativity up front. Birthday girl Dana Lazar gave props to her team for a gutsy effort.

Floss crew surges past Glenn Power

The Dr. Lee’s shut down Glenn Power 5-0 in Division 1 action at Blackburn Park.

The first goal came off a 75-yard Irene Arrotta free kick. Delina Erbenich then crossed a beautiful ball to Andi King, who nodded it in for the 2-0 lead.

Jacquie Hansen crossed to Erbenich, who deked the keeper for a 3-0 lead in the second half. Firm passing continued with Andi King giving a magical feed to Hansen, who danced around the keeper for the 4-0 lead.

Hansen, who was masterful in the middle, dribbled the ball downfield and crossed to a net-crashing Leah Frye for the final tally. Lisa Arrotta earned the shutout by playing a smart game and cutting down angles. Dr. Lee’s is 2-1.
