The Timberland Ski Club raced to several top finishes Feb. 11 at Troll Mtn.

The race, hosted by Quesnel’s Lightning Creek Ski Club, featured two local teams, totalling 15 skiers.

The skiers competed alongside five teams from Quesnel and three teams from Prince George, totalling 90 skiers ages five to 12.

On day one teams competed in four events — downhill obstacle course, slalom, radar race and long distance jump.

A highlight, the club said, saw families enjoy smores and a bon fire in the snow following the competition.

The evening ended with an awards banquet, hosted by Brian Bennett, Canadian Ski Cross athlete.

The opportunity for members to ski with, get photos and autographs and meet Bennett was a real thrill, the club said.

The second day featured the Snow Cross event — a fun, friendly race.

In all, the club said its results were spectacular — including a second-place overall Timberland Gate Gobblers squad.

Individual awards are as follows:

Timberland Gate Gobblers — Marie Navratil, Cole Turner, Sebastien Gracia, Lucas Nowotny, Grace Turner, Maya Nowotny and Daniel Navratil — second; Maya and Daniel  — second overall; Marie — first in snow cross; Rownen Manning — second in snow cross 12-year-old; Cole — first overall combined and second in snow cross 10-year-old; Carson Menzies — third in snow cross 10-year-old; Sebastien — first overall combined and first in snow cross nine-year-old; Peter Newberry — second in snow cross nine-year-old; Lucas — first overall combined and first in snow cross eight-year-old; Grace — third in snow cross seven-year-old; Daniel — first overall combined and first in snow cross six-year-old; Maya — first in snow cross six-year-old.

The Timberland Ski Club, based at Mt. Timothy Ski Area, uses the Nancy Greene program to train skiers for kids aged five to 12 to learn ski technique and a love of the sport.
