Kal Tire brushed back Alves Bros. of Kelowna 2-1 in an intense Kelowna Tree Brewing Men’s 35+ Soccer League match Thursday night at Mission Sportsfields No. 13.

Chris Ovens was fouled at the top of the 18 midway through the first half and Ryan Sharp stepped up to nail the free kick in the back of the net around the defensive wall.

In the second half, striker Jesse Knight turned a defender inside out and finished to make it 2-0 Vernon.

Alves. Bros. striker Morgan Marrs snuck between two defenders and gave Kal Tire keeper Mark Zaino no chance in the 70th minute. Alves. Bros is in second spot at 8-4-1.

Zaino recorded a few great stops to earn Westwood Electric Man of the Match. Each team was assessed a red card in the final minutes as tempers flared.

Fourth-place Kal Tire (7-5) visit fifth-place Salmon Arm Beer Badgers (6-6-1) Thursday night.

The Vernon Silver Stars dispatched host Lake Country 4-1 in Okanagan men’s 55+ action Thursday night at Rieswig Park.

Steve Coombs, Steve McCourt, Wolfgang Bopp and John Matejicka scored for the Stars (6-4-2), while Tibor Himer fooled everyone from an impossible angle for Lake Country (1-11). Neither team had subs.

The Summerland Rockets build up a 5-2 lead and hung on to clip sub-less Vernon Kal Tire 5-4 Thursday night at Mission Sportsfields #10.

Ray Evans and Murray McMichael each supplied deuces with Harold McEwen adding a single for Summerland (2-9-1). Tim Polukoshko posted his first win in goal in his first start of the season in place of regular keeper Tom McGill.

Denis Chabot and Chris Odermatt ran miles and each netted two goals for Kal Tire (5-5-2). Odermatt, playing hurt, was the Cherryville River Ridge Golf Course Man of the Match.

West Kelowna clipped Penticton TC United 3-2 with Chris Butlin netting the hat trick for the 13-0 winners. Butlin leads the league with 28 goals. Tony Munoz and Peter Toth replied for Penticton (6-5-2).

OTC Sistas shaded Do-It Drywall 3-2 in during Division 2 women’s play Thursday night at Marshall Field.

Diane Neudorf scored twice for the Sistas in the first half,  assisted by Kim Sylvester and Krista Gutknecht.

The winner came with three minutes remaining when Gutknecht nodded in a corner by Sylvester.

Player of the Match for OTC went to Crystal Flasch for her great game in goal.

The Rockstars clipped Collaborate Wellness 2-1 in other action.

Krista Mascagno scored for Collaborate, who got sweet goalkeeping from Alana McColm and Waverly Vanderveen.

Lady of the Match for Collaborate went to Jess Kirkland, who was marvellous in the midfield.
