Thompson Okanagan Football Club teams were in action at Rutland Recreation Park and in the Mission last weekend taking on teams from Coastal FC in the lower mainland.
Here are some game reports from the various divisions.
U-13 girls
In a fast-paced, intense match, the TOFC girls would lose 5-3 to Coastal FC as both teams set up multiple attacks throughout an entertaining game. The TOFC girls controlled the majority of the first half, moving to a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals from Arianne Turcotte of Kelowna. Coastal rallied at the end of the first half to tie the game at 2-2 and then carried the momentum into the second half. Turcotte added a third goal but the Coastal side was able to set up and convert more chances in the 5-3 win.
U-16 girls
TOFC’s U-16 girls were looking to win back to back home games after a win last week and made a positive start to last week’s match against Coastal.
TOFC controlled the start of the game however Coastal leveled the play and it was an evenly played game throughout with neither team able to score through most of the play.
With the teams battling hard to get the valuable three points late in the game TOFC began to find some gaps in the Coastal defence resulting in a series of dangerous corners. After Jaedyn Penkala (Kelowna) centred the ball Moraya Harrison (Kamloops) pounced on a loose ball in the six yard box to score her third goal in four games and the winner with only minutes to play.
U-14 boys
The TOFC U-14 boys fell behind 1-0 to Coastal FC but bounced back quickly to even the score en route to a narrow victory.
After Coastal went ahead four minutes into the game, TOFC tied the game on a soaring cross into the box from Alec Stewart (West Kelowna) to Bill Yeomans (West Kelowna), who finished with a goal. With the game tied 1-1 TOFC took over in the second half, dominating the play before they were rewarded with a goal when Conner Glennon moved the ball through the Coastal defense at the top of the box, fed the ball to Kamen Wimbleton (Kelowna) who the laid the ball off, and Bill Yeomans turned and nailed a solid laces drive into the net for the winning strike.
U-17/18
TOCS’s Under 17/18 side had a win and a loss in two games last weekend, taking on two different teams from Coastal FC.
Against the Coastal 95s, TOFC had a 4-0 win. TOFC opened the scoring at the twenty-five minute mark when. Midfielder Matt Fielding (Kelowna) passed the ball to Cole Kingzett who chipped the ball to Ayo Fashanu who struck the ball past the keeper. Nathan Persoon added a pair of markers while Kingzett put home the final goal on a second half penalty kick.
After taking care of the Coastal 95s, TOFC took on the Coastal 96s on Sunday in Rutland where they would lose 1-0. The only goal of the game came at the twenty-seven minute mark when a Coastal player turned and shot from just outside the box. TOFC generated some chances in half, but failed to score in the 1-0 loss.
