A pair of Thompson Okanagan Football Club teams made it as far as the semifinals, before watching their B.C. Soccer Premier League seasons come to an end last weekend on the Lower Mainland.
In U13 girls playoff action, the TOFC girls dropped a 5-0 decision to Coastal FC.
The TOFC girls came out hard and were putting on pressure early, but a quick transition and counter-attack led to two quick goals and a 2-0 lead for Coastal early in the first half. The TOFC girls continued to play with intensity, and there were several chances at both ends of the pitch. Entering the second half with a three-goal deficit, TOFC applied more pressure and gave themselves several excellent scoring opportunities. Forced to make multiple spectacular diving saves, the Coastal FC keeper was the difference and was able to keep TOFC off the scoresheet as the game ended 5-nil.
Head Coach Brian Dewar praised his team for its effort in the playoffs and all season long.
“The girls played a strong game, and did not quit despite being down,” Dewar said. “The early deficit made it a challenge to recover and bring the game back against a talented Coastal team. I am very proud of the effort this team brought, each and every one played with grit and heart. To make the semi finals in a high performance league such as this is an accomplishment itself. “
The TOFC U14 boys played in the semifinals in Surrey on Sunday and lost a tight game to the host team, 2-1.
