More than 30 skaters took to the ice and close to 100 fans were in attendance for an annual memorial hockey game at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on Dec. 26.
Red Rock Remembers honoured friends and teammates from different levels of hockey in 100 Mile House who have passed away throughout the years.
“Everything went great,” says organizer Lee Hansen, who was part of the 100 Mile House Bears Hockey Club – formerly of the Central Interior Hockey League – alumni team.
Hansen and company went up against a younger squad of 100 Mile House talent. It was a high-scoring affair that ended 17-14 for the youngsters.
A couple of junior players joined the game the morning of the event, so Cole Zimmerman, 17, a forward with the 100 Mile House Wranglers of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, joined the Bears alumni team for the exhibition.
That was a big help, Hansen says.
“We might have to get a few more young guys on the older team now because we keep losing.”
Heading into the game, Hansen says the holiday season is a perfect time for this type of event, which was sponsored by the Red Rock Grill in 100 Mile House.
He adds fans and players can expect much the same for next year.
“Everything worked well and it was good to see everybody.”
