Top Cheese champs crowned in Langley

Langley team among winners of the Stealth Lacrosse Academy's Top Cheese 3-v-3 tournament at the LEC

The Top Cheeses have been crowned.

The Rat Pack took top prize in the bantam division while 5 Snipes prevailed in the peewee division at the third annual Top Cheese 3-v-3 Lacrosse Tournament hosted by the Stealth Lacrosse Academy at Langley Events Centre over the weekend (Aug. 18 and 19).

The event featured players from as far as the Interior and Vancouver Island.

Bantam

The Rat Pack, an all-Langley squad, capped of their tournament with a 10-6 win over Bug’s Life.

The gold-medal winners consist of Bailey Vanichuk, Austin Vanichuk, Jonathan Grywacheski and Hudson Zazelnchuk.

The team was the top seed heading into the playoff round following a 4-0 round-robin record while Bug’s Life was second at 3-1.

In the bronze medal game for the bantam teams, Despicable 4 won 4-3 in sudden-death overtime over Rebel Yell.

Despicable 4 – which also won the prize of top uniforms – is made up of Reece Whitehead (Castlegar), Rocco Spong (Duncan), Drake Spong (Duncan) and Corin Tan (Burnaby).

Peewee

The peewee final saw 5 Snipes double up on Ak Hurst by an 8-4 score.

5 Snipes consists of Carter Bybel (Mission), Parker Tuckey (Maple Ridge), Josh Papequash (North Vancouver), William Denman (Semiahmoo) and Aidan Graham (New Westminster).

At 3-1, 5 Snipes were the second seed, but they avenged their lone loss to No. 1 Ak Hurst (4-0).

And the Corns – who also won the top uniform prize for their division – took bronze over Best Buds.

The Corns are made up of Mattias Roth (Vernon), Tag Moog (Penticton), Jacob Norman (Victoria) and Max Larsen (Surrey).
