They might have only won one game, and the majority of players may have been sick, but the Caledonia Sr. Girls basketball team had a good experience being exposed to good basketball at AA provincials in Kamloops March 6 – 9.
“Unfortunately most of our team was sick,” said coach Shelley Klassen.
“So we didn’t play up to our full potential, but still played as strong as we could.”
Cal, ranked 15 out of 16 teams in the tournament, tipped off first against the second ranked team, Vernon. It was a tough loss – Terrace fell 76-20.
“The girls were amazed with their talents,” said Klassen.
Vernon went on to play in the gold medal game, but fell 69-37 to Surrey’s Holy Cross to take silver.
The team then played three more games, winning the last game against JL Crowe from Trail 48-34 to take 15th overall.
But while they didn’t do as well as they would have liked, it was still good experience.
“I think the entire tournament was a standout moment due to the girls not going the previous year,” she said.
“The girls had a good experience being exposed to good basketball.”
Now it’s on to other sports for many of the girls, with plans to start fitness training before the summer.
“Arnie Pelletier, the head coach, and I are already planning for next year, and we are excited to see what the year will bring us,” she said.
