The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) will have a stop, Aug. 26-27, at Predator Ridge Golf Resort in Vernon.
Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ for aspiring young players, has received a record number of early bird registrations for the 2012 season, up 60 per cent from 2011. The unprecedented boost has resulted in a 50-tournament, nationwide schedule.
“Our mission is simple and it’s good to see it’s catching on,” said Elaine Denton, MJT director of marketing. “Our aim is to offer junior golfers in Canada a launch pad to pursue their golf goals whether it’s to improve skills, help secure a scholarship, play in college, compete professionally or become an instructor.”
The 2012 schedule of tournaments includes 10 stops in B.C., the first of which is at King’s Links by the Sea golf course in Delta (ends today).
There are other stops in South Surrey, Pitt Meadows, Victoria, Cloverdale, Surrey, and Langley, with the other Okanagan tourney hosted by The Harvest Golf Club, July 23 and 24, in Kelowna.

The organization hosts more than 60 events across Canada, including free Ford Go Golf Junior Clinics, the MJT Mini Tour for 7-12 year olds, and multi-day events for competitive players which also qualify juniors for international competitions.
