Whether you’re into trees flying by as you pedal down a world-class network of trails, or prefer kicking back on a houseboat while enjoying a brilliant lake view, there will be something for everyone’s fancy at the upcoming Shuswap Lifestyle Trade Show.
The Sicamous and District Recreation Centre arena will be the main venue for the Sicamous Chamber of Commerce event, scheduled for the Father’s Day weekend of June 17-19. However, related activities and attractions will be extended to Sicamous’ Main Street the Beach Park and nearby trails where attendees will have an opportunity to not just learn about what Sicamous and the Shuswap have to offer, but also get a little hands-on time.
“A lot of the houseboat companies and boat companies have offered free tours on the lake… we’re trying to get the dragon boat racers involved so they can take people out on the water,” says chamber president Corrinne Cross. Also planned are ATV tours, hiking tours, a mountain bike ride, and Cross says Moose Mulligans wants to do a wine and beverage tasting tour.
A scavenger hunt is also planned, with Twin Anchors already having donated a houseboat trip as one of the prizes.
“There’s going to be a lot of stuff going on which, hopefully, will bring people into the community and get them onto the houseboats so they come back next year and rent a houseboat, get people into our businesses downtown and take it from there,” says Cross.
Final registration for vendors is May 15. Call 250-836-3133 to register. Volunteers are also needed to help with various aspects of the event.
This weekend another event, the sixth annual Spring Fling Home, Garden and Leisure Show, takes place at the arena. This event showcases home-based businesses, artisans, specialty food producers, antique and collectible dealers and more. This event, scheduled for May 13 and 14, begins with a pancake breakfast offered by the Sicamous Lions Club. This event is put on annually by the Spring Fling crew, Dina, Donna, Michelle and Lynn.
