Tri-district swimmers meet

Tri-district elementary and middle school recently held their swim meets.

Congratulations to all of the students from Sooke and area who participated in the Victoria Elementary and Middle Schools preliminary and championship swim meets! The meets took place on Monday, Feb. 18 and Sunday, Feb. 24, respectively.

Swimmers from Hans Helgeson, John Muir, Ecole Poirier, Sooke Elementary and Journey Middle School participated in the meets.  All of the swimmers swam very well and seven of the school program swimmers qualified for the Championship meet.

Six swimmers from Island Swimming automatically qualified for the Championship meet.  All 13 swimmers swam personal best times at the Championships and raced well.

Some of the top eight finishers in their age groups were: Matthew Mitchell (8-and-under) placed fourth in 25m Free, second in 25m Back, and fourth in 25m Fly; Nate Hopkins (8-and-under) placed eighth in 25m Fly; Daniel Prissick (10-and-under) placed sixth in 25m Back and eighth in 25m Fly; and, Clarke Hopkins (10-and-under) placed sixth in 25m Breaststroke. The Poirier relay team swam to seventh place in the 10 & under boys 100m Free Relay.
