A week after battling some of the top teams from B.C. and Alberta at the Best of the West Tournament in Kamloops, the White Rock Tritons will look for their first regular-season win of the season on home turf this weekend.
The Tritons – who lost their first two games of the BC Premier Baseball League season back at the beginning of the month – will play twice against the visiting Victoria Mariners Saturday afternoon at South Surrey Athletic Park.
The first pitch of Game 1 is set for 1 p.m., with the second game of the doubleheader planned for 3:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, White Rock will travel east to Langley’s McLeod Park for an evening game against the Blaze.
Though this weekend’s tilts are far from “must-win” territory – there are still 40 more games after this weekend – it would behoove the White Rock squad to get off to a better start than they did last year, when they went 3-18 to start the year and, despite a late-season charge, narrowly missed the post-season; they were eliminated from contention on the final weekend of the regular season.
“We definitely don’t want to go down that road again,” Tritons’ coach Russ Smithson told Peace Arch News earlier this month.
