TRU holds WolfPack Youth Kayaking Camp

Summer is finally here and what better way to spend it than bombing down a rapid in a whitewater kayak?

Summer is finally here and what better way to spend it than bombing down a rapid in a whitewater kayak?

Thompson Rivers University Adventure Studies Department and TRU WolfPack Sport Camps are hosting the second annual WolfPack Youth Kayaking Camp.

With the rivers rising and the interest spreading, this summer’s camp promises to be popular.

To maximize the river experience, campers jump right into the water and waste no time on land.

The five-day kayak camp focuses on: Whitewater kayak skills and safe practices, team building, leadership and environmental sustainability.

The camp will transform the river into a playing field in which all of these skills will be demonstrated and practised under close supervision of fully certified instructors.

Campers will start on one of the lakes surrounding Kamloops and slowly progress over the week to eventually take on some of the famous whitewater rivers in the area.

At the WolfPack Kayak Camp, it is all about having a good time; however, each student will see a rapid progression over the week and leave with good, hard skills.

The camp’s high instructor-to-student ratio ensures everyone gets the attention they need and that no kayak goes unrolled.

Instructors are among the best in the industry and are all graduates of the TRU Adventure Studies Department.

Camps are open to those ages 13 to 18 and will take place from Aug. 15 to Aug. 19 and from Aug. 22 to Aug.26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Cost is $400, which includes equipment rentals.
