It’s not very often a player from a team that finishes seventh at a provincial championship gets an all-star nod.
But it happened to Danya Truscott-Plitt of the Fulton Maroons.
Truscott-Plitt was voted to the second all-star team at teh B.C. Senior Girls AA High School Volleyball Championships in Fulton.
“This was a compliment to Danya and the team,” said Maroons head coach John Neilson.
Truscott-Plitt had 16 kills in the team’s final two games, a 2-1 loss to fourth-seeded York House of Vancouver, and a 2-0 win over Notre Dame of Vancouver.
Team captain Allison Hobkirk added a dozen kills for Fulton, who played seven matches over three days. Hobkirk had 34 kills, 19 blocks and nine service aces while Truscott-Plitt added 51 kills and 15 aces.
Emily Dahl contributed 37 kills, Paige Noakes had 19, 12 blocks and 13 service aces. Setter Abbey Hughes had seven blocks and eight aces while Emma Binns had 14 kills and 11 blocks.
Coach John Neilson was pleased with the results.
“There were several mental let downs that hurt our chances and we could have finished fifth,” he said. However the three teams that we lost to were ranked in the top-four. Four of the starting lineup graduate next year (Hobkirk, Truscott-Splitt), Dahl, and Hughes).
Seaton Sonics finished seventh at the B.C. senior girls AAA finals in Vancouver.
After losing its quarterfinal match to the Timberline Wolves of Campbell River Friday night, the Sonics fell in straight sets to Timberline’s crosstown rivals, the Carihi Tyees, in straight sets, 25-6, 25-16.
Seaton finished its season by sweeping the Nanaimo Islanders 25-20, 25-12.
Vernon Christian School Royals placed 10th at the A senior girls provincials in Fernie. After consolation side wins over Tsawwassen’s Southpointe Academy Titans and the Chetwynd Cavaliers, the Royals finished with a loss to Okanagan rivals Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School of Kelowna.
Seaton Sonics finished tied for 15th at the B.C. AAA boys finals in Langley.
The Sonics dropped their final match, 22-25, 25-17, 15-8, to Okanagan rivals Sa-Hali Sabres of Kamloops.
